INOUE, Seigetsu (1822?-1887) is a legendary bleaching haiku-poet in Japan.

Hearing thousands voices of cicadas is one of the most summery scene in Japan. It is also a very popular topic for haiku poetry in summer.

On this haiku, he would enjoy the coolness of stream of clear water and shade of trees, then showering chorus of cicadas came into his ears from the shade of trees all through the time. It sounded like praising the water.

''神楽KAGURA'' is traditional dedication dance for the gods in shrine. If it is performed in summer(in Japanese, 夏NATSU), we call it ''夏神楽NATSU-KAGURA''.

At this season, rice planting has been done and the farmers pray for the harvest in coming autemn. Sometimes the nature brings disasters like typhoon, heavy rains and cool summer. So they pray to the gods to keep them away and get the bumper crop.

As watching on the KAGURA, cool wind blew from the river. And it would contain the scent of pine trees. ''松風MATSUKAZE'' or pine wind has double meaning. There is same titled stage of Noh play and he would watch it then. The stage on this picture is not it, unfortunatly. It is called ''扇舞OHGI-MAI'' or fan dance.
